Why Email Appending helps you get more success than buying a new email list

25 Jan

There are bulk email lists and then some.  In a sincere attempt to expand your reach, these may be the little guys you turn to with the firm hope that they bring you some amazing leads. Reality Check – It just does not happen.

A bulk email list or an off the shelf email list is typically a harvested file of contacts that has been built with no method or purpose. So in many ways it’s just there waiting for the likes of any desperate marketer to pick. Well don’t berate yourself for being one of them. You just needed a good contact list for your marketing and this just seemed like the perfect answer to your problems, or was it? Reality Check again – No.

So where, you may ask does a lead list come from. Simple answer – To start with, right from inside.  Without patronizing in the least, let me tell you how.  At various intervals in the course of your journey as a company, you may have attended trade shows, conferences, seminars and the like. And met a lot of people, exchanged cards and the whole shebang. And then you populated them into your database or perhaps just kept the cards in the goldfish bowl.  And then you had inquiries, walk in’s and all those.  If you didn’t treat these contacts like gold, odds are that you may have about 20% of them with valid contact information in your database today. Again, start with them since these are your hottest lead points. I’m sure you would agree with me that ‘Out of Touch’ is never ‘ Out of Mind’.

So what do you do with them?  Let me draw your attention to a term I’ve used in the title – Email Appending. That’s what you do. Send out your data to a credible append service provider to have it matched against an internal database and get the emails and whatever other data fields you need appended. The service provider typically has a large contact file and the match process would yield a significant number of emails and other fields appended.  What’s more, you pay only for the appended and verified data.

No more wasted time and money using junk contact data. With email appending, you really can’t go wrong since the contact was yours from the very beginning.  So, dust out every piece of contact data you have from the deep recesses of your marketing closet and have it appended.  You can be sure that you would have a total winner in hand.

Email Appending Vs Acquisition of New Contacts with Emails

9 Jan

A new marketing list is most prerequisite of a company for all its marketing initiatives. In order to explore newer avenues of lead generation and sales, a company has to have a continuous influx of newer and fresher data to their already existing database. To have a new marketing list, the following options are available to a marketing team:

  1. Email Appending
  2. List Purchase

Email Appending doesn’t just  provide you with newer lists but importantly, it provides you with more precise  relevant data. The relevancy and the accuracy of the data forms the key towards ensuring a successful email append process. The email addresses that are added to the client’s existing database are acquired through various channels like tradeshows, seminars, and webinars and are verified for deliverability to offer the clients 100% accurate email addresses.

List Purchase on the other hand deals in volume. A client can procure or purchase  a large  volume of data based on her given criteria at a minimum cost. But these lists are generally pre-packaged  and more than often now up-to-date or accurate. Though it might look as if the client is getting a substantial amount of new contacts by list purchase, in truth she might be left with less than a tenth of it t as relevant data.

Benefits of Email Appending over List Purchase

  1. Email Appending ensures that your existing lists are complete and up-to-date
  2. Cost Effective way of expanding your effective online reach
  3. Faster and more efficient way to enriching your existing marketing database
  4. Better response rates leading to shorter sales cycles
  5. No spam block issues

Email Appending, if used judiciously and strategically, can result in effecting a multifold increase in the company ROI. It is a better option than List Purchase as it helps in maximizing the effectiveness  of the  existing data of a company, as opposed to a hit and miss approach of purchasing ready made data that  might turn out to be erroneous and irrelevant.

Email Appending Process for Beginners – Opt In and Opt Out

3 Jan

f you are not familiar with the term Email Append, it is a process that helps you communicate with a larger number of customers in your database through email marketing, even if you do not currently have their email address. Through email append an email address can be added to a customer record, which may only contain a name and address otherwise. This is also perfect for customers that have not collected email addresses previously, but would like to build their email list by leveraging their customer relationships.

Email Appending is done by matching our Master database of 40 million records with the Client input file. Whereever a match is found, the emails are added to the client file.

After you append email addresses to your customer list, you should send them an opt-in or opt-out message.

  1. Opt-in messages require the recipient to click a button or link to be added to your email list, effectively causing them to take an action.
  2. Opt-out messages require the recipient to click a button or link to be removed from your email list. This means that they must take an action to not be emailed.

As you can imagine, opt-in messages will result in a smaller list, however, this list will likely be fully engaged and would be one more likely to open/interact with future messages. Additionally, opt-in subscribers are less likely to flag your messages as spam.

Regardless of whether you choose opt-in or opt-out, you should make sure to:

  1. Introduce your company and the relationship you have with the customer.
  2. Let your customers know what kind of messages they will receive. For example, is this a newsletter or special offers?
  3. Indicate how often they can expect to hear from you.
  4. Tell your customer what they need to do next (e.g. the opt-in or opt-out).

As with all email marketing messages, you should have your information and an opt-out mechanism in the footer.
